We developed renewable piezoelectric devices using laser-designed wood templates to grow Rochelle salt crystals as pillars. This setup addresses the crystal brittleness while enabling stress activation. To avoid metal electrodes, we use laser graphitization as a new method to create carbon electrodes on the composite’s surface. Built for a circular economy, the devices are easy to assemble, recyclable, and emit 60% less CO₂ than commercial lead-based ceramics.

Using multiscale characterization techniques, we take a step closer to understanding the growth and migration behavior of catalytic iron nanoparticles and their role during Iron-Catalyzed Laser-Induced Graphitization, a promising approach for rendering biomaterials electrically conductive. Integrating nanoscale findings within a mesoscopic framework provides new insights into the structural evolution during graphitization and highlights the potential of this approach for future green electronics
