Event-driven Simulation of Swimming in Granular Particles

Exotic but efficient swimming modes under low Reynolds number condition have attracted much interest. Swimming in granular matter, which has static structure, is more interesting and complex problem.

We ar studying the swimming in granular matter by an event driven simulation. the swimmer consists of two bladders connected by a spring. To make swimming motion, we let the bladders inflate and shrink, and the natural length of the connection is also changed in time. So far we have found that the swimming motion called pushmepullyou gives good directional swimming.
